Formula 1 driver Kimi Räikkönen announced he will be retiring from the sport at the end of 2021, leaving behind a legacy that includes a championship, 21 wins, and over 100 podiums. Celebrate the 41-year old Finn stepping away from F1 by buying one of the McLarens he raced during the 2002 season.
This MP4-17, specifically chassis 06, debuted at the Grand Prix of Europe at the Nürburgring, where Räikkönen finished 3rd. The car went on to have mild success throughout the 2002 and 2003 seasons, racing a total of 12 times at the hands of Räikkönen and his teammate David Coulthard. Räikkönen would go on to secure three 2nd-place finishes with chassis 06, but it was Coulthard who was behind the wheel during the car’s best result, a 1st place finish during the 2003 Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park.
Being from what some consider the golden era of F1 sounds, this MP4-17 is currently set up in its original “A” specification (versus the later 2003 “D” spec), powered by a 3.0-liter Mercedes-Benz-supplied FO110M V-10 engine making 845 horsepower and capable of revving to a staggering 18,500 rpm.
