Watch Formula E’s Champion Make The Pass Of The Week at Monaco

Formula E races are odd. The 45 minute format focused on energy conservation has produced some nightmares, most notably the disastrous round at Valencia that ended with an artificial energy usage cap creating a catastrophe of a finish. But the cars race well, and, despite their generally-odd temporary circuits, the races tend to be fun to watch. Few, however, have been more fun than this weekend’s race at Monaco.

The race saw no less than six lead changes, and, although reigning series champion Antonio Felix da Costa would eventually win from pole, it took one bold move on the last lap, at the very last viable passing area, for da Costa to turn his pace into a win.

da Costa was trailing entering the track’s legendary tunnel turn, but he had the momentum advantage on the leading Mitch Evans. He boldly used that extra speed to dart to the inside of the corner exit, placing him just in front of Evans on the outside for the track’s final viable passing corner, the hard braking zone that leads into the Nouvelle Chicane. da Costa slid in front of Evans and locked up his right front tire, forcing Evans to slow to avoid a collision and barely making the corner. The move stuck, and da Costa would go on to win his first race of the season. This content is imported from Twitter.
