Watch a Rimac Nevera and a Tesla Model S Plaid Go Head to Head in a Drag Race

The electric revolution is upon us. No longer are the quickest production cars at the drag strip all-wheel-drive ICE-powered supercars with wild launch control systems and fast-shifting dual-clutch transmissions. The top two spots are now occupied by purely electric cars: the Rimac Nevera and the Tesla Model S Plaid. While both are obscenely quick in a straight line, just one can reign supreme.

The Drag Times YouTube channel, the same folks who recorded the Nevera’s 8.52-second quarter-mile record earlier in August, put together a few drag races between it and the other quickest production car on sale right now, the 1100-hp tri-motor Model S Plaid sedan. While the Plaid is down on power and up on weight compared to the 1914-hp Rimac, it’s impressive just how well it can hold up.

In the first of three races, the Tesla gets a great start, and actually spends a few seconds ahead of the Rimac. Right towards the finish line, though, the Nevera claws back to take a close win. The next two races are a bit more decisive, with both cars getting great starts, and the Nevera winning by several car lengths. For the full story, check out this article from Road & Track.
