Unplugged Performance is on a quest. The Tesla tuning shop has long had its eye on Pikes Peak as the ultimate event to showcase its EV modding prowess. Last year, the company ran a stripped-out Model 3 that looked ferociously quick right up until it got crashed. This year, Unplugged is back with an upgraded version of the just-launched Model S Plaid, with three motors and 1020 hp. And if the practice video is any indication, Unplugged’s dream of a blistering time seems like a done deal.
In the video, hotshoe Randy Pobst takes to the Peak for a practice run. Perhaps unsurprisingly, given its meaty tires and lightened curb weight, the Model S zings through the corners. On the straights, though, it is a different species. The Plaid is already the quickest-accelerating production car ever made; strip out hundreds of pounds and it only gets more bonkers. Time appears to be speeding up during its acceleration runs out of corners. For the full story and video, check out this article from Road & Track.
