VW Group Global Vehicle Sales Down 4.5 Percent In 2021

It seems that the ongoing chip crisis is mostly affecting mainstream brands as exotic and performance automakers like Lamborghini and Rolls-Royce are reporting record sales for 2021. That’s not the case with Volkswagen Group, though, as the multinational automotive conglomerate registered a 4.5-percent decrease in its combined global sales of passenger and commercial vehicles.

VAG’s sales report for 2021 shows that the company delivered a total of 8,882,000 vehicles last year versus 9,305,000 in 2020. Of those nearly nine million cars, 4,896,900 were Volkswagen passenger cars and 359,500 were commercial vehicles. Both divisions saw decreases in their performance compared to 2020, respectively -8.1 percent and -3.2 percent for the passenger and LCV arms.
