Underground Racing Will Put a Manual Transmission in Your New Audi R8

The best part about the first-generation Audi R8 was its gated manual transmission option. When the current-generation car premiered in 2015, Audi did away with the third pedal for good, giving buyers just one choice of gearbox: A seven-speed dual-clutch. Not all hope is lost for the manual faithful, though. If you want a true six-speed in your new R8, you can still have one. You’ll just have to turn to the aftermarket to make it happen.

 

Underground Racing, the Charlotte, North Carolina based shop that specializes in twin-turbo Lamborghini Huracán and Audi R8 builds, just revealed its latest customer car, a 1500-hp twin-turbo 2020 R8 for a customer in Dallas, Texas. The most interesting part of the car isn’t the massive power number, though. It’s the transmission. In addition to the engine mods, the customer also requested Underground Racing swap out the dual-clutch for a proper six-speed manual. And from the photos, it seems the firm did an excellent job doing so.
