When Honda debuted its newly revamped Civic sedan in late April, the company confirmed our worst fears, dropping the manual transmission from the car’s option list going forward. We wondered whether this decision would reach the high-performance Si and Type R versions of the Civic, but according to a representative from Honda, that’s thankfully not the case.
In an Instagram Live video uploaded to YouTube by the CivicXI.com forums, Honda media relations manager Carl Pulley confirms the upcoming Civic Si as well as the Civic Type R will get three pedals.
“We will definitely have an Si, and as tradition it only comes with a manual transmission,” Pulley said. “That will be the case here. And for the super-enthusiast, yes we will have a Civic Type R coming out, and yes that will be manual transmission as well.”
Interestingly, Pulley also confirmed the return of the Civic hatchback. And unlike its standard sedan sibling, it’ll have a stick-shift option.
“The sedan doesn’t come with a manual but the hatchback will be next, will definitely have a manual transmission,” Pulley said. “Honda arguably makes the best manual transmissions.” For the full story, check out this article from Road & Track.
