With a starting price of $265,000, this Shelby GT500CR from Oklahoma firm Classic Recreations will likely cost more than a ’67 original, but it has one thing the original doesn’t—carbon fiber. The bodywork is made entirely of carbon fiber, and for good measure, you can get it with an 810-hp supercharged Coyote V-8. Don’t expect this to be slow.
Classic Recreations builds GT350s and GT500s under license, and now, it’s offering this carbon-fiber body upgrade for the ‘500 in partnership with SpeedKore, the Wisconsin shop that’s made a name for itself building carbon bodies for muscle cars old and new. This particular car hasn’t been weighed yet, but Classic Recreations says it should be 600 pounds lighter than a steel-bodied equivalent. That’s a huge saving.
