The 2022 Hyundai Kona N Costs How Much More?

The 2022 Hyundai Kona N is the sportiest mainstream small crossover you can buy—okay, it’s pretty much the only mainstream high-performance small crossover you can buy. So, it’s a good thing that this competition-less turbocharged fun machine won’t cost an arm and a leg to buy. Hyundai released pricing and some equipment details for the Kona N, and the SUV comes only one way—fully loaded. There are no trim levels to pick from. But the question on our minds is, how does its MSRP compare to its Veloster N kin?

In addition to its 276-hp, 289-lb-ft turbocharged 2.0-liter I-4 engine, eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, electronically adaptive suspension, active exhaust, beefier brakes, and electronic limited-slip front differential, the ’22 Kona N comes with every active safety feature the Kona offers. That means forward collision warning, automated emergency braking, automatic high-beam control, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, and adaptive cruise control.

For essentially the same powertrain you’ll find in the excellent Veloster N hot hatchback installed in the Kona’s taller, roomier, full-four-door body, you won’t pay much more. A ’22 Veloster N with the same dual-clutch transmission (a $1,500 option on that model, which comes standard with a six-speed manual) runs $35,025. The 2022 Kona N, on the other hand, will cost $35,425—that’s right, only $400 more.
