Mighty Toyota GR Yaris Meets Kei Miura’s Rocket Bunny

If you’re stateside and at all a fan of a compact hatchback delivering just over 300 hp through all four of its wheels right out of the box, then you’re probably still carrying a bitter taste in your mouth at the fact that there are no plans for Toyota to deliver the GR Yaris to America. Put aside your fiery disdain for a few minutes, stop punching the air, and live vicariously through Matias Maenpaa of Finland, who found his way to the mighty GR Yaris through Instagram, of all sources.

Truth be told, the hype surrounding the high-powered three-banger didn’t do much for Matias, as he was already content piloting his BMW M140i. A good friend of his, however, wanted that BMW for himself and prodded Matias endlessly about it. He added, “I didn’t want to sell it at first but after a few weeks, he managed to talk me into selling the car. The biggest problem I had was figuring out what would replace it since I was happy with it.” The only real motivation to let go of the bimmer was Matias noting that its resale value wasn’t at all promising and cutting his losses up front might save some heartache down the road.

With the deal done and the BMW a thing of the past, Matias spent a few weeks sifting through the web for something that might catch his interest. Thoughts of picking up an older sports car that would hold up well and possibly gain value over time made sense, but that idea went out the window immediately when an Instagram post grabbed his attention. “Eventually my choice was made by Kei Miura,” Matias recalled, “because he posted a render of the new GR Yaris with a Rocket Bunny kit on it and I spent a good amount of time just staring at that Instagram post.” For the full story, check out this article from Motor Trend.
