Michelin has been making fantastic tires for years now. Its Pilot Sport series of summer performance tires has established itself as the industry standard that all other tires are compared against. They’re found on everything from Porsches to BMWs to Rimacs. So when a new Michelin tire drops, the car world takes notice.
The French tire company revealed today an update to its Pilot Sport 4 summer tire, aptly named the Pilot Sport 5. Intended for sports cars and high-performance sedans, it gets a number of upgrades to make it perform even better than before. A feature Michelin calls “Dynamic Response Technology” uses a hybrid aramid and nylon ply to better translate the car’s connection to the road. There’s also the company’s Dual Sport Tread Design tech, which uses the inner half of the tread for wet driving optimization and the outer half for dry-weather performance. As before, Michelin says the Pilot Sport 5 is the best-performing tire among its competitors when it comes to lifespan.
