Nearly six months after abruptly canceling almost all of its V-8 models, Mercedes has finally announced the return of most of its V-8 SUVs, according to Motor Authority. But the fate of the rest of the affected models remains in doubt.
Mercedes had announced in August that the entirety of its V-8 lineup would no longer be available for order, save the newly redesigned S 580 and its Maybach counterpart. Explanations for this varied. The company originally blamed “external and internal” standards and supply issues, but in an interview with Road & Track the boss of AMG said it was a “quality issue.” Months later, we still do not have a clear understanding of what caused the sudden disappearance of some of the brand’s most profitable models.
