The 2022 Porsche 911 GT3 is the twelfth iteration of the track-ready sports car, including the RS variants, to come from Weissach. In an era of downsizing and turbocharging, the GT3’s atmospheric powertrain is arguably better than its ever been. Now, we have a chance to hear the famous flat-six-powered weapon howl its way up to its 9000-rpm redline on a dyno.
Sitting in the back of the new GT3 is a 4.0-liter flat-six, which is derived from the engine the automaker uses in its 911 GT3 R race car. The motor should be familiar to the Porsche faithful, as it powered the 991-generation 911 Speedster. The engine features individual throttle bodies, rigid rocker arms, and plasma-coated cylinder liners, and more high-performance trickery. Total output is rated at 502 hp and 346 lb-ft of torque from the factory.
While that may not seem like a ton in this era of 800-hp supercars, the GT3 is no slouch. With the PDK dual-clutch automatic optioned, Car and Driver was able to record a 0-60 mph sprint of just 2.7 seconds in it. Around the Nordschleife, the GT3 is capable of running a seriously impressive 6-minute 59.927-second lap. For the full story and video, check out this article from Road & Track.
