First Car
Hi all,
Im 15 and I’m currently saving up money to buy my first car but I am not sure what to buy. I want a car that is reliable but I can still have some fun in. I also need to have at least 4 seats. If anyone has any good recommendation please let me know!
Thanks,
Owen

Whats up Owen? What’s your budget looking like? Do you like Japanese or European?
I can’t tell you what car to buy but I can tell you to buy something that has parts that are plentiful and cheap. My weekend car is a 350Z and parts for general repair are on average 2x more than my daily driver and NOTHING is in stock for it at the parts store near me, every time something breaks, I have to wait for parts…. it would suck to buy your first car and have mantenence burn a hole through your pocket

That’s a good point daniel! I think Mustangs are good in this department. They have good power for the money, plenty of mods available, and parts are readily available and cheap…

I’d have to agree, I’m not a mustang guy, or a ford guy but they’re fairly cheap and parts are plentiful, my buddy had a few mustangs and parts were ALWAYS in stock at parts stores and junkyards are loaded with them should you ever need parts from a scrapyard

First car. Well that is a hard one. First thing that i would look at is the insurance on the car before you buy it. If you are looking at an older car make sure that the aftermarket supports it.
But we need a little more info than 4 seats.
So I recently just bought my second car a little over a year ago and parted ways with my first car. Based off of the recommendations of the mustang, I would look into a Dodge Charger. I’m a mopar guy at heart and my first car was a 2014 all wheel drive charger. Insurance is fairly cheap, I would assume cheaper that a mustang, it has four doors which is a massive plus for a first car if your boys complain bout being in the back seat of a 2 door like mine do and it was comfy as hell. I did plenty of road trips in my charger and never had a complaint about being cramped or uncomfortably because the seats were like couches lol. Also it was a lot of fun to drive the v6 had decent power for its size and all wheel drive which was massive for NJ winters, I cannot stress enough how nice it was having all wheel drive in the winter. Mods were fairly cheap and there are a few companies that make turbo/supercharger kits for the v6 pentstar engine which is nice. Obviously a v8 would be preferred, but for a young kid that hurts insurance prices a lot.
I would check out any of Hertz cars, they are selling off a lot of their fleet right now and if you don’t mind buying an old rental you can get a fire deal on a nice car.
Hi Marc!
I’m not a Ford or a Mopar guy, myself (yet). I had a Charger R/T as a rental car for a week – it was SUPER fun to drive around. The loud V8 was incredible. Throttle response was great, and the 4 door makes it more practical and probably cheaper to insure. Also, turn off traction control and you can easily let the rear wheels loose.
I think the AWD is only available on the V6, but I could be wrong …

Really depends on your budget and whether you’re a muscle car or import kinda guy. I would highly recommend a Challenger. My brother had a scat pack shaker & now a Hellcat & they‘re both awesome. You can get great deals on them, and the back seat can comfortably seat 2 adults and a large dog too (I know from experience haha). I think it’s a cooler option than a Charger, personally. If you’re not into American muscle, I would go for a Subie WRX STI. You can play around with them in all weather cause of AWD and there’s tons of modifications you could do cause there’s a huge aftermarket for them.

For a first car hard to compete against AWD muscle cars such as the challenger GT and the charger variant as it will give you the looks of a nice car but give you everyday driveability. My first car was a 93 Mazda Rx7 and I drove it til it snowed and was lucky enough to obtain a jeep Grand Cherokee to use. If it had to be a single car for everything look at those as mopars as cost of ownership is very low. Before you buy drive EVERYTHING you think you would want, will help narrow it down.

what do you guys think about a Subaru BRZ or a Toyota 86? I know they’re slow but that would probably be better for a first car than something fast.

Hi Owen!
The BRZ is a really sleek looking car. Its not the quickest, but they are sleek looking and I’m sure they would look/sound good with some mods =)
