Ferrari just released a few photos of its upcoming limited-edition track-focused 812, and, wow. It looks wild, with all sorts of new aerodynamic features like a giant boomerang-shaped duct in the hood and slats replacing the rear window. But the bodywork isn’t the craziest thing about this new 812—that’d be the engine, which makes 830 horsepower at 9500 rpm.
As a brief reminder, the 812 uses a 6.5-liter naturally aspirated V-12. We live in a world where big power figures are common, but horsepower like this without forced induction or any hybrid assist is extraordinary. And getting a 6.5-liter engine to spin well beyond 9000 rpm is no easy task, either. More details on the engine are coming, but Ferrari says it was able to achieve these numbers with new internals, plus a new variable valve-timing system and a new exhaust.
