F1’s Miami Grand Prix Confirmed For Early May 2022

Despite the fact that we’re just approaching the halfway point of Formula 1’s 2021 season, plans for 2022 are already well underway. According to a report from PlanetF1, series CEO Stefano Domenicali has confirmed that the long-rumored Miami Grand Prix will have its inaugural running in early May 2022.

News of the scheduling decision came during an investors call last week, where Domenicali further n0ted that demand for Miami GP tickets is very strong. Fan interest in the event isn’t entirely surprising, as the city will be only the eleventh American location to host a Grand Prix. That said, not everyone is excited for the traveling circus that is professional motorsports to come to town. The original circuit proposal was canned after residents raised concerns over the necessary road closures, leading to the creation of the current track setup, outside Hard Rock Stadium.

This new layout isn’t foolproof either. Miami Gardens residents have filed lawsuits against both F1 and the Miami Dolphins over concerns related to city noise ordinances. Worse yet, the track layout itself is constrained to what is essentially the parking area of the NFL stadium. That doesn’t strike us as a particularly enticing place to watch the world’s best drivers duke it out. For the full story, check out this article from Road & Track.
